Guwahati, Aug. 30: Nigerian recruit skipper Michael Lucky's hattrick helped FC Green Valley inflict a 3-1 defeat on Gauhati Town Club in today's one-sided fixture of the R.G. Baruah Trophy Guwahati Sports Association Super Division Football League at Nehru Stadium here.
Green Valley were comparatively experienced but put up a weak show midfield. GTC, on the other hand, were more agile, but owing to their lack of experience, failed to take the battle into the opponent's castle.
Lucky fired in the first goal for Green Valley in the 24th minute. Snatching the ball from rival midfielders, Lucky carried the ball to the left flank and struck with a powerful right footer to lob it overhead GTC custodian and skipper Subol Rabha.
Green Valley were awarded a penalty kick after GTC's I. Chauba committed a fault inside the box in the 45th minute. Lucky converted the shot in the added time of the first half.
In the second half, the GTC boys regained their composure and launched few powerful attacks. In the 61st minute, Kake, coming through the left flank, off a pass from Firujit Singh, shot the ball that hit custodian Rabha and bounced towards the goal but rebounded from the bar.
Eight minutes later, Binan Singh's header off a centre by substitute Chhimling from the left flank found the back of the net, earning GTC their lone goal.
In the 73rd minute, skipper Lucky caught custodian Rabha off guard. His powerful right-footer from inside the box forced a hurried save. The ball bounced out and fell before Lucky, who wasted no time in tapping it in.
