Imphal, May 17: Maharaj Garibniwaz Memorial Club swimmer L. Paikhomba struck three gold on the opening day of the 23rd All Manipur Age Group Aquatic Championship at Khuman Lampak swimming pool today.
In all, the Maharaj swimmers took home six gold medals today.
In the 50-metre butterfly event, Paikhomba timed 00.41:2 seconds to come first while H. Roshan and Th. Kisan of Huirem Leikai Sporting Youth Development Organisation bagged the silver and bronze, clocking 00.58:97 seconds and 01.06:97 seconds respectively.
Paikhomba clocked 00.34:89 seconds to win the 50-metre freestyle event while his club mate L. Lenin bagged the silver. South East Development Organisation swimmer K. Jimboy took the bronze.
Paikhomba emerged unbeaten in the 50-metre breaststroke event. He clocked 00.43:10 seconds. His fellow mates S. Inunganba and Lenin bagged the second and third positions.
In the 50-metre men’s backstroke event, the Maharaj boys continued its winning spree with Lenin clocking 00.47:79 seconds to win the gold. L. Anil and Ingunganba took the second and third spots.
S. Rabikumar of Maharaj won the gold in the 1-metre springboard group I by scoring 350.5 points. In the group II springboard event, W. Inaotomba of Maharaj came first by scoring 291.85 points while M. Khanganba Meitei of Ekhoigi Club bagged the silver.
In the 1-metre springboard boys group III, District Sports Association, Kakching swimmers T. Johnson Meitei and Th. Robart came first and second.
