Focus on adventure tourism

A business incubation training on adventure tourism, organised by the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) and sponsored by Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Sriperumbudur, was inaugurated by Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah on the IIE campus on Monday.

Guwahati: A business incubation training on adventure tourism, organised by the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) and sponsored by Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Sriperumbudur, was inaugurated by Assam Tourism Development Corporation (ATDC) chairman Jayanta Malla Baruah on the IIE campus on Monday.

The inauguration was held in the presence of IIE director Manoj Kumar Das, RGNIYD associate professor Sharmistha Bhattacharjee, general secretary of Assam Mountaineering Association (AMA) Manoj Barooah and faculty members of IIE.

Thirty youths from Lakhimpur, Tezpur, Pamohi and Guwahati, including a few from Nagaland, are participating in the 10-day training session.

The course will consist of modules like management of adventure tourism (theory), marketing of adventure tourism (theory/visit), practical classes on rock climbing, trekking, night safari, camping, camp area development, water sports and response to disasters.

The theory classes will be conducted by the IIE faculty while practical demonstrations will be given by AMA. Rescue and first aid will also be taught by officials from civil defence organisations.

ATDC Chairman Baruah said, "There is tremendous potential for adventure tourism in the state. Since the formation of our government, we have taken different initiatives for development of tourism."
