Golaghat: Two FIRs have been filed against Maulana Syed Arshad Madani, the president of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and intellectuals of Assam present at ameeting in New Delhi, where Madani allegedly made communal remarks.
With this, the number of cases in connection with the meeting has risen to five. Earlier, two cases were registered at Basistha and Fatasil Ambari police stations in Guwahati and another at Tezpur.
The first FIR on Friday was filed at Golaghat police station by Meraj Wasikur Rahman, president of Ujoni Axom Khilonjia Muslim Akyo Mancha and other at Dergaon police station by Ripul Das, a local youth.
Rahman said Madani had made a communal remark, allegedly saying that after the publication of the National Register of Citizens (NRC), "if the names 50 lakh Muslims were excluded from it, then its repercussion would burn the state." Rahman regretted that intellectuals like Hiren Gohain, Monjit Mahanta, Haidar Hussain and Apurba Baruah had remained silent when Madani made the statement.
We the indigenous Muslim people of the state never accept Madani as our guardian and we condemn his behaviour to destroy the age old communal harmony exist in the state, added Rahman.
In the FIR we have also urged investigation agency to bring the members of Delhi Action Committee for Assam within the ambit of investigation because we have every right to believe that they are also the part of a greater conspiracy to disturb the ongoing process of updation of NRC, Rahman said
When contacted, additional superintendent of police, Dhruba Jyoti Bora has informed that the FIR in Dergaon has been registered vide case no 748/17 u/s 120 (b) (criminal conspiracy), 121 (waging or attempting to wage war or abetting waging of war against the government of India), 153 (Wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot) and 295 (a) ("Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs") of Indian Penal Code while the preliminary investigation regarding the FIR in Golaghat is still going on.
