Guwahati, Dec. 23: The 225th board meeting of the Tea Board of India today approved a proposal to make a comprehensive documentary on Assam tea.
The proposal was submitted by Bidyananda Barkakoty, representative of the joint forum of the Assam Tea Planters Association, North Eastern Tea Association and the Bharatiya Cha Parishad.
The amount earmarked is Rs 41 lakh.
Tea Board of India chairman M.G.V.K. Bhanu chaired the meeting held in Tezpur.
Sources said the documentary would cover Assam tea, right from how it was discovered by Robert Bruce with the help of Maniram Dewan to its present status.
The documentary will be of international standards from all aspects. The board also approved the setting up of an eight-member advisory committee of the Small Tea Growers Directorate of the Tea Board.
