JORHAT OPEN TENNIS
Guwahati, Dec. 25: The fifth day of the 24th Jorhat Open Tennis Tournament at Jorhat Tennis Club saw two upsets with unseeded Eva Raj Shah toppling second seed Breshna Khan and unseeded Harshita Bora defeating third seed Snikdha S. Baruah to enter the semi-finals of the girls' under-14 singles category.
Eva, from Guwahati, beat Breshna, also from Guwahati, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (5) in a hard-fought quarter-final today while Harshita, from Dibrugarh, toppled Snikdha, also from Dibrugarh 6-1, 6-2.
Top seed Debangana Borkotoky of Jorhat and third seed Baishali Bora of NRL also reached the semi-finals in this category. Debangana defeated Ishita Dahotia from Guwahati 6-0, 6-3, while Baishali got the better of Guwahati's Areena Phukan 6-3, 6-2.
In the boys' under-12 singles, Debanga Hazarika of Golaghat, Aditya P. Bhagawati of Guwahati, Shahir Farhaz of Jorhat and Raktim Gogoi of Sivasagar reached the semi-finals. In the boys' under-14 singles, Rishav Brahma of Jorhat, Swagat Kr Baruah of Jorhat, Arnab P. Das of Golaghat and Jishnu Baruah of Guwahati reached the semi-finals.
In the boys' under-14 doubles, the pairs of Rishav Brahma/Jishnu Baruah, Debanga Hazarika/Arnav P. Das, Ayandeep Baruah/Swagat Baruah and Rajdeep Singh/Hrykpb Bora entered the semi-finals.
In the men's doubles, Bedabrat Mohan and Rituraj Gogoi of Sivasagar defeated Sivam Goswami and Anshuman Phukan of Numaligarh Refinery Ltd 6-2, 7-5.
The men's quarter-final matches and all the semi-final matches will be played tomorrow.
