Guwahati, July 9: Debashsish Dutta of Disneyland High School and Parikshit Upadhaya of Maharishi Vidya Mandir, Barsajai, shared the lead in the Queen group tally with 4.5 points each after five rounds on the third day today of the All Assam School Chess tournament.
The tournament, organised by the Assam Chess Academy, is being held at Gauhati Commerce College.
Plaban Kishore Gogoi of Bokakhat School, Rocky Bora of Don Bosco School, Tinsukia and Imtiaz Islam Bora of Babies Nursery School, Tinsukia, were trailing in second position with four points each.
In the Knight group, Mahasweta Kumar of Mangaldoi Vidya Niketan tallied full five points, defeating the popular Krishnashish Gogoi in a fifth round today.
Nawazish Hashmat of GNB Academy, Indrajeet Handique of LPG Sankar Vidya Niketan, Duliajan and Kaustav Neogi of Delhi Public School Guwahati were trailing with four points each.
Ananya Gogoi of Demow Adarsha Jatiya Vidyalaya led the Pawn group tally with 4.5 points after five rounds. She was trailed by Natasha Dutta of Disneyland High School, Salim Raja of Victoria School Maligaon, Pragyan Kashyap of Don Bosco School, Guwahati and Abhinash Dutta of St Joseph School, Duliajan with four points each.
In the Guwahati Open Chess meet, under way at Manipuri Basti High School, unseeded Shahjahan Ali defeated third seed Fide-rated player Th Bipin Singh.Top seed Fide-rated Mrinal Kakati outwitted Neelkamal Das in a 37-move game capitalising on weak middle game defence. With the wins, Ali and Kakati shared the top slot with three points each after three rounds. Rustam Hazarika outsmarted Sur-ya Ingti for the second spot.
