DSA fails to decide on State Games

The District Sports Association (DSA), Silchar, has failed to come to a decision on holding the State Games in Silchar from December 27 to January 1.

Hailakandi, Aug. 10: The District Sports Association (DSA), Silchar, has failed to come to a decision on holding the State Games in Silchar from December 27 to January 1.

The DSA governing body meeting on Saturday estimated that nearly Rs 1.5 crore will be required for organising the Games and resolved to seek the help of sports minister Ajit Singh.

Earlier, Guwahatihad expressed its inability to host the Games because of paucity of funds. Held under the banner of Assam Olympic Association, the Games were held only twice so far in 20 years, at Tezpur and Nagaon.

The meeting, held at the pavilion of Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium in Silchar, also discussed the proposed Sports Authority of India (SAI) training centre in Silchar. Silchar MP Sushmita Dev suggested the DSA to find out the requirements of SAI for the proposed centre.

Dev was relieved of her duty from the constitution committee and replaced by former Rajya Sabha member Kamalendu Bhattacharjee along with Sujoy Duttaray as convenor of the committee.

The meeting approved the release of Rs 1 lakh to Town Club as first instalment for the construction of its playground.

Besides, the meeting also decided to organise a blood donation camp on August 29 on the occasion of National Sports Day. Two members of all the affiliated clubs of DSA will be asked to donate blood.

Silchar Sporting lose

After 18 wins in a row, defending champions Silchar Sporting tasted defeat in the hands of Arunachal Sanskritik Sanstha 1-2 in a super-four level match of Ramanuj Gupta Trophy Super Division Football League of DSA Silchar at Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium on Saturday.

Last year, Sporting won the title. Sporting are now struggling and the picture will be clear after the Sporting-Tarapur AC match tomorrow, the last match of the league.

Following the withdrawal of India Club, the match between Arunachal SS and India Club was not played on Sunday and Arunachal SS were awarded full three points.

Arunachal SS took the lead in the 18th minute through a goal from Maneingir Halam off a pass from Lalvan Sanga. Chunga gave the 2-0 lead in the 57th minute. He scored the goal from a pass from Manmohan Sakachep.

Sporting found the only goal through a penalty conversion by Ringson Hmar in the last minute of the match. The penalty was awarded by referee Dwijendra Mohan Sarma for Arunachal SS defender Ishakha handling the ball inside the danger zone.
