Shillong, Aug. 3: Two four-year-old school-going children, Sachit Goel and his cousin Harsha Goel, have been kidnapped by their driver Amar Saha.
The incident occurred when the driver took the children yesterday from their house at Upper Mawprem to Springfield School in Malki. Police sais Amar drove them to Upper Shillong instead of their school. Two of his accomplices followed in a taxi.
The incident has sent shock waves throughout the city. The district police immediately swung into action and apprehended the driver. During interrogation, the driver revealed that the children were transferred to the taxi, which had followed them. Later, he called up their house and informed the family members that the children had been kidnapped and he was injured in the incident.
The family members could not believe the driver’s story and informed the police. The district police immediately alerted Assam police and the border security police to be vigilant.
East Khasi Hills superintendent of police A. R. Mawthoh, said based on the information divulged by the arrested driver, they have arrested four more persons suspected to be involved in the case. Amar had hatched a plan to kidnap the children on August 1, but failed in his attempt.
“We are confident of cracking the case by tomorrow. Special teams have been formed to find the children and we believe they are safe.” said Mawthoh. “So far the family has not received any call for ransom and we are investigating the case from all angles.”
The family members of the abducted children refused to comment as they felt it would jeopardise the safety of the cousins.
