DHANSENA CRICKET
Guwahati, May 17: Fairyland High School and Guwahati Public School (GPS) won their respective matches in the 7th All Assam Dhansena Sinha Memorial Inter-School Cricket Tournament at Latasil playground here today.
Fairyland defeated Anand Academy by 42 runs, while GPS posted a three-wicket win over Sarla Birla Gyan Jyoti.
Fairyland put up a decent 162 for five in 20 overs, thanks to Kumar Rai’s 84 off 55 balls. Shivu Poudal and Binod Khanal chipped in with 15 and 14 respectively.
For Anand, Dipankar Das and Padma Gogoi took two wickets each.
In reply, Anand were bowled out for 120 in 17.4 overs. Dipankar Das starred with the bat as well with a quickfire 29 while Himanta Buragohain and Sayef Ansar came up with useful knocks of 21 and 16 respectively.
The Fairyland bowlers managed to take wickets at regular intervals and put a check on the run rate.
Rajib Ali’s superb spell of two for five runs made the difference while Binod Khanal and Man of the Match Kumar Rai bagged a couple each.
In the afternoon match, Sarla Birla opted to bat and posted 111 for six in their 20 overs. Naveen Sarma was the highest contributor with 32 while Aditya Gautam struck 27.
Manash Gautam was unbeaten on 21. For GPS, Surendar Singh took two for 15. Charles Khaklary and Sashikant Gupta took a wicket each.
GPS, despite losing seven wickets, achieved the target with one over to spare.
Mohan Mandal was the highest contributor with 34 off 30 balls. For Sarla Birla, Sourav Surana scalped two for 10. Aditya Gautam and Abhishek Kalita also chipped in with two wickets respectively.
