Bokakhat: With upstream Doyang river receiving heavy rainfall, the water level in the reservoirs of the Doyang hydro-electric power project in Wokha district of Nagaland has been on the rise, nearly touching the danger mark.

According to Neepco, the water level of the dam is 323.6m while the danger level is 324m and the trend has been increasing. Two radial gates at the dam were opened 0.5m on Friday morning.

The district information and public relations officer at Golaghat, Neena Baruah, said the water level of the Brahmaputra at Dhansirimukh was 74.35m and the Dhansiri was flowing at Numaligarh at 78.07m. The danger levels of these rivers are 75m and 78.42m respectively. Golaghat and Sarupathar recorded 55mm and 20mm of rainfall.

According to the District Disaster Management Authority at Golaghat, a total of 15 villages with a population of 1,900 were still affected by the recent floods.

The villages that are still submerged are Sitalmari, Kachamari Tanagar number 8, 4 Sonalipathar and Goroibeel under Merapani subdivision while number 3 Dolonipathar, 2 Dayalpur, Pithaghat, 3 Dakhin Dayalpur, Silonijaan, Borbeel, Singimari, Tengani, Majgaon and Jamuguri under Dhansiri subdivision in Golaghat district.

Similarly, 300 hectares of cropland are still submerged. Golaghat district administration is running eight relief camps where food materials along with other daily necessities are being supplied.

The farmers are in a dilemma whether they will be able to cultivate in their agricultural lands they were buried by silt.
