Don Bosco, South Point win tourneys

Guwahati, May 29: Don Bosco School, Sonaighuli and South Point High School emerged winners in the under-17 and under-14 categories at the Lutuma zone inter-school football and kho kho championship, which concluded at the Barsapara ground here on Tuesday.

Don Bosco School, Sonaighuli also won the girls’ (under-14) kho kho championship, defeating South Point High School 17-3 in the final of the championship, organised by Kamrup district sports officer.

The meet in the Lutuma zone was hosted by the Football Coaching Centre of Lutuma.

Don Bosco School, Sonaighuli edged past Dakshin Guwahati High School (Lutuma) 4-3 via tie-breaker in the under-17 football, while in the under-14 category, South Point High School beat Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Vidyamandir 5-4 in tie-breaker.

The winners in football will now take part in the Kamrup district inter-zonal meet from which players will be selected for the state team to take part in the Subrata Cup school football championship. There are nine zones in the district.

The weeklong meet was inaugurated on May 21 by deputy director of sports (OSD) Rajib Prakash Baruah in the presence of the veteran footballer, Adhir Roy.

The prizes were distributed by veteran international player P. Kaman, Guwahati Sports Association president J.K. Bora, inspector of physical education S.P. Das and senior citizen Narrottam Saha.
