Don Bosco & Sunshine win

Sunshine Public School and Don Bosco School, Sonaighuli, today registered victories in their respective matches of the 12th Dhan Sena Sinha Inter-school Cricket Tournament, organised by River Rine Cricket Coaching Centre, at Latasil ground here.

Dhan sena cricket

Guwahati, June 2: Sunshine Public School and Don Bosco School, Sonaighuli, today registered victories in their respective matches of the 12th Dhan Sena Sinha Inter-school Cricket Tournament, organised by River Rine Cricket Coaching Centre, at Latasil ground here.

Sunshine handed a 10-run defeat to Oakland High School in the morning match, while the Bosconians got the better of Guidance Edu School in the afternoon.

Put in to bat, after Oakland won the toss, Sunshine posted 148 for four in the stipulated 20 overs. The Oakland batsmen were restricted to 138 for nine in the 20 overs.

Sonu Chetri topscored for Sunshine with a strokeful knock of 52 runs, facing 40 balls and slamming five hits to the ropes and a six. Hari Das (26, 2x4) was another notable scorer for the side, while Akash Kumar remained unbeaten on 17 (1x6).

Sahid Ali of Oakland scalped two wickets for 13 runs.

Sahid also topscored for Oakland with 28 runs, hitting three boundaries. Vikash Pandit (18, 2x4) and Pankaj Mandal (15, 1x4) were the other notable scorers for the side.

Sonu Chetri was the Sunshine demolition man, having hauled four for 21 while Hari Das chipped in with two for 23.

In the other match, the Bosconians elected to bat and posted 125 for nine in the 20 overs.

The Guidance boys were restricted to 114 for nine in the 20 overs.

Aveek Choudhury scored 41 runs off 35 balls for Don Bosco. He hammered three fours and two sixes. Deepak Kr Yadav (21, 2x4) and Sanjeet Singh (12) were the other main scorers for the side.

Sagar Basfor, Munna Das and Abhishek Bharti of Guidance School picked up a wicket apiece, giving away 13, 18 and 15 runs respectively.

For Guidance, Aryan Sharma scored 38 (3x4, 1x6), while Ashish Bharti chipped in with 21 (1x6) and Rahul Singh contributed 16 (1x4, 1x6).

Om Prakash Shah was the pick of the Don Bosco bowlers, notching up three for 16, while Kalpajyoti Mili and Ankul Singh shared two for 17 and 20, respectively.

Tomorrow, Don Bosco School will play Sunshine and Dantin Academy meet Hindustani Kendriya Vidyalaya.

Rowing team: The Assam Boat Racing and Rowing Association has named a 30-member team of boys and girls for the 19th Sub-Junior National and first Inter-State Challenger Sprint National Rowing Championship to be held in Chennai from June 7 to 12, organised and hosted by the Tamil Nadu Amateur Rowing Association on behalf of the Rowing Federation of India. The squad will leave Guwahati tomorrow.
