Doctor, son killed in road mishap

Jorhat, April 11: Mukul Bhargava (47), assistant professor in the department of surgery, Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH), Dibrugarh, and his 15-year-old son, Abhay, were killed in a road mishap at Bokakhat today.

Mukul’s wife, Gayatri, assistant professor in the department of paediatrics, AMCH, was critically injured in the accident.

Gayatri, daughter of D.N. Bezbaruah, editor of The Sentinel, was immediately rushed to the AMCH.

She was later referred to the Guwahati Neurological Research Centre.

The mishap occurred when the Bhargavas’ Maruti Zen had a head-on collision with an army vehicle at Gossaibari under Bokakhat police station this afternoon. The Bhargava family was proceeding towards Guwahati.

The police have seized the army vehicle. The incident has shocked the entire AMCH fraternity. A condolence meeting was organised at the hospital, which was attended by teachers, employees, junior doctors and students.

PCC chief Paban Singh Ghatowar, who is also chairman of the AMCH governing body, condoled the untimely demise of Bhargava and his son.
