Digital drive to empower region

The Centre will launch a slew of digital initiatives, as part of the Digital North East Vision 2022, on Saturday to leverage the power of information technology and speed up the overall development of the Northeast.

Guwahati: The Centre will launch a slew of digital initiatives, as part of the Digital North East Vision 2022, on Saturday to leverage the power of information technology and speed up the overall development of the Northeast.

Official sources said the vision document aims to provide a roadmap to translate the vision of Digital North East 2022 into a firm action plan for each of the northeastern states.

Union minister for electronics and IT Ravi Shankar Prasad will release the document Digital North East Vision 2022 here.

The document will be released in the presence of the chief ministers and IT ministers of the northeastern states and senior officials of the Centre and state governments.

The idea is to fast-track the implementation of Digital India initiatives in the Northeast through optimum utilisation of IT to transform the lives of the people.

The document identifies eight digital thrust areas - digital infrastructure, digital services, digital empowerment, promotion of electronics manufacturing, promotion of IT and ITES, including BPOs, digital payments, innovation and start-ups and cyber security.

State-wise roadmaps to implement digital initiatives in the northeastern states have been developed.

Through these, the vision document aims to empower the people of the region.

The minister of electronics and technology and Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal will lay the foundation stone for the Common Facilitation Centre and Smart Meter Manufacturing facility in Electronics Manufacturing Cluster in Tech City, Bongara Village, in Kamrup district for promotion of electronics manufacturing in the region.

During the event, foundation stones will also be laid for four National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) permanent centres in Guwahati, Shillong, Lunglei and Gangtok.

The National Informatics Centre (NIC) is launching the Secure, Scalable and Sugamya Website as a Service (SwaaS) websites for Arunachal Pradesh and Tripura.

State MyGov portals are being launched for Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura to take participative governance to the last mile citizen.

A Software Technology Park of India (STPI) incubation facility is being inaugurated in Agartala, Aizawl and Shillong.

A BPO centre under the North East BPO Promotion Scheme is being inaugurated in Majuli.
