Dhubri gears up for rural polls

The Dhubri district administration has started to gear up for the panchayat elections for 29 zilla parishad and 168 gaon panchayat seats.

Dhubri: The Dhubri district administration has started to gear up for the panchayat elections for 29 zilla parishad and 168 gaon panchayat seats.

The district administration convened a meeting of its officials, along with leaders of different political parties, on Tuesday at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner.

The meeting was presided over bydeputy commissioner Anant Lal Gyani, in which a threadbare discussion on reserved seats and other election-related matters took place.

According to the state election commission guidelines, 14 zilla parishad seats are reserved for women while one is reserved for an SC candidate.

The seats reserved for women are Modhulsoulmari, Chalakura, Bahir Salmara, Airkata, Motirchar, Adabari, Modhusoulmari-Tiyamari, Alomganj, Uttar Getamari, Agomoni, Panbari, Borkanda and Ananda Nagar Bangalipara.

The seat reserved for the SC candidate is Hatidura.

Seats reserved for women for the post of anchalik panchayat president are Tamarhat, Gauripur, Debitola, Golakganj, Agomoni, Nayeralga, Chapor and Salkocha.
