Guwahati, Jan. 5: Dainandin Barta and The Assam Tribune cruised into the quarter-finals of the third T.G. Baruah Trophy Media T20 Cricket Tournament today by winning their respective matches at Judges Field here.
While Dainandin prevailed over Asomiya Pratidin by 68 runs, Tribune got the better of Asomiya Khabar by 48 runs. In the morning match, Dainandin batted first and posted 136 for six in 20 overs and Asomiya Pratidin were bundled out for 68 in 12.1 overs.
Surajit Borah (33) and Vikram Sinha (31) were the main scorers for Dainandin while Tauhid Ali Talukdar and Parthiv Hazarika of Pratidin picked up a wicket each.
Parthiv's 15 was the best score by a Pratidin batsman. Abinash Thakuria was the demolition man for Dainandin, picking up four wickets for only five runs.
In the other match, Tribune batted first and were dismissed for 109 in 17.4 overs. Khabar were skittled out for 61 in 12.3 overs.
Tribune's Amaresh Sinha bagged five wickets for 16 runs and Kausav Baruah top-scored with 23. Khabar's Debashish Karmakar scalped three wickets for 12 runs and Amit Das top-scored with 28.
A minute's silence was observed by the players and organisers prior to the matches as mark of respect to BCCI scorer Anupam Das, who died yesterday. In the quarter-finals tomorrow, NewsLive will play Assam Photo Journalists' Association and DY365 will lock horns with Pratidin Time.
