Guwahati, July 15: Rhinoplasty and blepharoplasty, among all the cosmetic surgery procedures, are trending in the Northeast in the past eight months.

It was disclosed today by Apollo Cosmetic Clinics at a video press conference in the city conducted by Dr Kuldeep Singh, senior consultant of cosmetic surgery at Apollo, from New Delhi.

Apollo Clinics, which is part of Indrapastha Apollo Hospitals, has witnessed a significant rise in the number of patients from the Northeast wanting to opt for these two procedures in the past eight months.

While blepharoplasty is done to correct defects, deformities, and disfigurations of the eyelids, rhinoplasty is to reshape or correct nose defects.

"Cosmetic procedures have been around longer than most people realise. Cosmetic or aesthetic surgery not only perfects the aesthetics of the nose of a person but also rectifies functional abnormalities of an organ," Singh said. Speaking on rhinoplasty, he said, "While performing it, particular attention is paid to the ethnicity of the patient. We at the Apollo Cosmetic Clinics custom design each nose for each face."?

Furthermore, if correcting a deformity involves a non-surgical procedure, Singh said, patients from the Northeast prefer it more because there is no downtime.

"If the plan is to augment the nose, then this option is available but not in the case of blepharoplasty. Instead of doing a rhinoplasty, injectable fillers are used to alter and shape a person's nose without invasive surgery. It's a temporary option that lasts for almost 18 months. The best part is that there is no downtime involved. Moreover, the approximate cost for rhinoplasty is Rs 1.25 lakh with a recovery time of around two weeks. On the other hand, blepharoplasty costs Rs 1 lakh and takes a week for the patient to recover," Singh said.

Double eyelid surgery, also known as Asian eyelid surgery, is performed to create or enhance an upper eyelid crease. "This type of surgery is performed on Asians to westernise the appearance of their eyelids," he said.
