Golaghat: A team of Golaghat police, led by deputy superintendent of police Partha Pratim Saikia, on Saturday visited the Doyang hydro-electric project in Nagaland's Wokha district, after BJP legislator from Khumtai, Mrinal Saikia, lodged an FIR against Neepco for the flood situation in Golaghat district.
Based on the FIR, police have registered a case (No. 578/18) under Sections 120B (punishment for criminal conspiracy), 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC and Sections 3 (mischief causing damage to public property) and 4 (mischief causing damage to public property by fire or explosive substance) of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.
The FIR was filed against the Neepco chairman and the chief project officer of the Doyang scheme.
In the FIR, it has been alleged by Saikia that on July 27, Neepco had released "excess water" from its dam without notifying either the Golaghat district administration or the Assam government, causing sudden rise of the water levels in the Dhansiri and the Doyang.
"Our team went to Doyang and took the project officer Priyabrata Das to Bhandari police station in Nagaland where he was served a notice under Section 41 (A) of the CrPC and was asked to appear in Golaghat police station Sunday to record his statement," said additional superintendent of police Dhruba Jyoti Bora.
On the other hand, flood-affected people from various villages on Saturday gathered outside Golaghat police station and demanded immediate arrest of Neepco officials against whom the case has been registered.
