Shillong: The Congress in poll-bound Meghalaya on Monday continued its tirade against the BJP on demonetisation, GST implementation and the NDA government's move to come out with the Financial Resolution and Deposit Insurance Bill.
It alleged that the bill would allow use of depositors' hard-earned money to help banks bail themselves out when they go bankrupt.
"The tall claims of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that demonetisation will root out black money, circulation of fake notes and terrorism have fallen flat on his face. Instead these turned out to be Independent India's biggest financial scam that took your money and burnt your pockets." the Congress's national spokesperson Tom Vaddakan told reporters here on Monday.
"The rich and the corporate made a windfall due to demonetisation as it helped them turn black money into white," he said, adding demonetisation was the "biggest joke" that put common people through intense hardship affecting the poor hard-working citizens who are dependent on cash-based economy.
"The BJP government had promised minimum government and maximum governance when they will come to power. But we have seen in the last four years how the BJP-led government has given nothing except lies to the common man of the country and pushed them towards more hardships. The promise of creating two crore jobs every year for the unemployed, people have instead lost jobs. About 20 lakh people or more have lost their jobs due to demonetisation," Vaddakan said.
"The price of petrol has hit the roof while international price remains stable. Why are petroleum products not brought under the GST? Is the government protecting the oil companies?" he asked, adding that the BJP should start weeding out corruption from New Delhi.
He also flayed the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre for not disclosing prices of Rafale aircraft and said it is the biggest scam.
"We are bashing the BJP though it is not the main Opposition because there are Judas here. We want to protect culture of people of Meghalaya who should not be told what they should eat, dress and live," he said.
Stating that the Congress is not against the BJP or any individual, Vaddakan, however, claimed that the "BJP is using the front to come to power through backdoor, because they are past master in misusing the Constitution#".
