The Assam Assembly on Thursday passed the Guwahati Prevention of Defacement of Property Bill 2006 and the Assam Hill Land and Ecological Sites (Protection and Management) Bill, 2006. he first bill will prevent defacement of heritage sites, structures, compound walls and public places for preservation of natural beauty, cleanliness and environment in the city. The second one will preserve, regulate, acquire and maintain the hills and other ecological sites. Police recovered a young woman’s body from a roadside drain at Hatigaon on Thursday. Police said the woman, identified as Marjina,was homeless and mentally ill. They suspect she may have accidentally fallen into the drain last night and died.
