Chirang score 2-1 in Gold Cup

Kokrajhar, Sept. 26: Chirang edged past Gossaigaon 2-1 in a first round match of the 10th Sujit Narzary Gold Cup football championship at the Kokrajhar District Sports Association (KDSA) ground here today.

In a keen contest, Mritunjoy Borgoyari shot the Chirang side to the lead in the fourth minute. But, despite repeated forays by both sides into the opponents? territories, the Chirang outfit only led 1-0 at the breather. In the second session, the Gossaigaon men were more aggressive in their attacks and Hemanta Mushahary equalised the scoreline in the 57th minute.

However, the parity in the score was shortlived and Dhanjit Daimari fired in the second goal for Chirang just 10 minutes later.

At Dotma, hosts Dotma Sports Association rode a double brace by Karbi Ranjan Brahma to crush Barama Udangsri Club 7-2 in a match of the ninth Daoharu Mungkhlong Trophy football tournament at Dotma Sports Association ground in Kokrajhar district today.

Brahma ruffled the net in the 21st, 27th, 75th and 89th minutes while Jayprakash Basumatary scored three goals in the 37th, 56th and 62nd minutes. G. Choudhury and S. Boro scored a goal each in the 41st and 58th minutes respectively in favour of Udangsri Club.

In another tournament, organised by the National Democratic Front of Boroland at Kumguri ground in Serfanguri in Kokrajhar district on the occasion of its 20th Foundation Day, Bardwi Shikha Club of Kachugaon beat Discovery Club, Kokrajhar 5-4 in tie-breakers. Rising Club of Holtugaon blanked home side Jangkhrithayari Club 3-0.

The Bardwi Shikha-Discovery matched ended in a 1-1 draw in regulation time, with Prakash Brahma scoring for the Kachugaon side in the 28th minute and Jwmwi Brahma equalising in the 51st minute.

Coaches? clinic: As many as 10 NCA qualified coaches of Assam attended the first day of the two-day coaches? clinic organised by Assam Cricket Association in Guwahati on Monday.
