Guwahati, Oct. 24: It is once again time to honour and celebrate Assam's finest.

The Telegraph Axom Shrestho Awards 2016, like the inaugural edition in 2015, will felicitate 11 stalwarts, one each from the field of film, theatre, education, literature, social work, song & music, dance, art & culture, sports, entrepreneurship and fashion. The stalwarts will be chosen by an eminent jury.

The second edition, to be presented by Indian Oil and powered by Apollo Gleneagles Hospitals, will be held on October 28 evening at Vivanta by Taj, Guwahati, which is the Hospitality Partner for the event. The other event partners include Television Partner: DY365 and Radio Partner: 93.5 Red FM.

A member of the organising committee said preparations were on to make the occasion a "smooth and memorable affair" just like the first edition which saw an instant connect with the august gathering which was all praise for the first-of-its-kind initiative to acknowledge and recognise the best from the state.

Last year's awards, presented by Life Insurance Corporation of India in association with the IOC, saw Bhogeswar Baruah (sports), late Nalinidhar Bhattacharjya (literature), Neel Pawan Barua (art and culture), Abdul Majid (cinema), Kinaram Nath Ojha (dance), Dipali Borthakur (song and music), Abhijit Baruah (entrepreneur), Bhaskar Datta Goswami (fashion), Tabu Ram Taid (education), Hema Bharali (social work) and theatre personality Dulal Roy being feted by the then chief minister Tarun Gogoi at a well-attended function.

Leading names from the government and other walks of life had participated in the event.

Last year's awardees were also chosen unanimously by an eminent jury, comprising singer Pulak Banerjee, lyricist and writer Lakshahira Das, former president of Asam Sahitya Sabha Rong Bong Terang, and the zonal manager of LICI's eastern region, Hemant Bhargava.
