Case against 3 for assault on two girls

Police today registered a suo motu case against three youths for allegedly assaulting two girls at Ganeshguri last Sunday.

Guwahati, Sept. 29: Police today registered a suo motu case against three youths for allegedly assaulting two girls at Ganeshguri last Sunday.

According to witnesses, the youths escaped in a car after committing the crime.

"Sub-inspector Indreswar Pathak today filed a complaint against the trio - Banjit Das, Nikunja Das and Aizul - who had allegedly assaulted and tried to outrage the modesty of the two women at Ganeshguri," said Biren Deka, officer-in-charge of Dispur police station, where the case has been registered.

The case was registered under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 354 (outraging the modesty of a woman), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and 34 (common intention) IPC.

On Sunday night, the two girls, who were coming from Mejban Bar at Ganeshguri around 9.30pm, were intercepted by the accused and assaulted.

Following the attack, a crowd gathered in the area and the police were informed but the accused managed to escape before the cops arrived.

The police said a search was on to apprehend the accused. The victims are yet to lodge a complaint in connection with the incident.
