Guwahati: Assam BJP on Tuesday submitted a list of 13 new documents to the NRC authorities here to be considered for inclusion of a person's name in the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

Assam BJP general secretary Pulak Gohain submitted a memorandum to NRC state co-ordinator Prateek Hajela expressing concern at the exclusion of "lakhs of genuine Indian citizen and indigenous people of Assam" from the complete draft published on July 30.

Names of over 40 lakh people of the 3.29 crore applicants were not in the complete draft.

The BJP said despite dating back before 1971, some documents were not considered valid by the NRC authority.

The BJP told Hajela that although the Supreme Court allowed certain documents to be accepted for inclusion in the NRC, some other documents ought to have been taken into consideration. It submitted a list of 13 such documents.

The list of documents are: migration certificate, citizenship certificate, all variants of refugee cards, camp inmate cards, refugee eligibility certificate, grazing permits till 1971, khuti permits till 1971, tauji revenue receipts till 1971, cattle tax revenue receipts till 1971, revenue collection receipt issued by devalaya and other religious institution till 1971, certificate issued by school till 1971, recruitment certificate of armed forces, and revenue payment receipts issued by forest department of or other authorities.

The BJP told Hajela that lakhs of women and their children have been left out of the NRC (although their parents and relatives are included) because of unavailability of valid documents. It requested Hajela to allow those women having at least two witnesses from family member and one co-villager at the time of direct hearing as proof their nationality.

The BJP said most of the people do not have birth certificates. "Therefore, we request you to accept the date of birth mentioned in the school certificate as their birth date in India during the period of 1950-1987,"it said.

The BJP also demanded that the children of D-voters born before July 1, 1987 and Gorkhas living in the state be included in the NRC.
