Dibrugarh, Oct 6: 25 Sector Assam Rifles Football XI blanked Jeuti Sangha, Jokai, 5-0 in the inaugural match of the 6th Capt. Jintu Gogoi Memorial Football Tournament that got under way at the Chowkidingee playground here today.
Although, today’s inaugural match was scheduled between Jeuti Sangha, Jokai, and Derial Gaon Yubak Sangha, Duliajan, the latter failed to arrive.
The organisers had to re-organise the inaugural tie at the eleventh hour today.
Dibrugarh deputy commissioner G.D. Tripathi inaugurated the tournament, while honorary flying officer T.R. Gogoi, father of Capt. Jintu Gogoi, declared the tournament open. Fifteen teams are featuring in the meet, the final of which will be played on October 21.
Tomorrow, Tengakhat Sports Association will take on Duliajan Football Academy.
This year the Dibrugarh-based 18 Jat Regiment is conducting the tournament with technical assistance from the Dibrugarh District Sports Association and the Assam Football Association.
