Assam drub Delhi, enter last eight

Guwahati, June 11: In a spectacular match today, Assam drubbed Delhi 7-0 in a group B tie to move into the quarterfinals of the ongoing senior national women’s football championship at the Nehru Stadium in Chennai.

Two of the goals were scored in the first half with R. Bora (47th and 62nd minutes) and Anjana Pegu (58th and 72nd minutes) scoring a brace each for the Assam team.

The other strikers were Pratima Gogoi (12th minute), Kunti Digal (20th minute) and M. Bargaya (71st minute). Assam will next take on Maharashtra on Friday.

The Delhi women had earlier lost to the Maharashtra outfit 0-1. There are only three teams in group B after the withdrawal of Megahalaya.

Team named

The Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre (GCCC) has named its 20-member squad, which will play a series of matches in an exposure tour in Delhi and Haryana later this month.

The team will play matches against recognised clubs and coaching centres in the two states and will leave on June 26, instead of the earlier announced date of June 23.

Altogether 15 matches have already been finalised for the tour. The GCCC coach-cum-secretary, Nabab Ali, and Gautam Sarma will accompany the team as chief and assistant coaches respectively.

Mukibuddin Ahmed will also accompany the team as the manager.

The GCCC team: Sadek Imran Choudhury, Pablu Momin, Ram Kripal Gupta, Paritosh Kumar, Jyotimoy Saikia, Trisul Narayan Mazumdar, Jivanjit Rajkhowa, Sudarshan Bhattacharjee, Rupam Talukdar, Sanjoy Kakoty, Deepjyoti Chakraborty, Pinaki Bayan, Gauravjyoti Rajkonwar, Nirbhoy Kumar Singh, Tridip Thakuria, Angaraj Hazarika, Sibsankar Roy, Vikash Sarma, Bidur Roy and Dhimanjyoti Bora.
