Guwahati, Dec. 15: Top seed Arunesh Bora of Guwahati, second seed Debanga P. Hazarika of Golaghat, fourth seed Anchit Gogoi of Guwahati and 13th seed Anurag Konwar of Golaghat made it to the semi-finals of the boys' under-12 singles in the 25th All-Assam Junior Ranking Tennis Championship, organised by North East Tennis Foundation here.
In the round of eight played today, Arunesh got the better of Pawandeep Saikia 6-4, 6-3, while Anchit made short work of Denish Das 6-1, 6-2, Anurag overcame Udvash K. Gogoi 7-6 (5), 7-5 and Debanga defeated Aditya Bhagawati 6-1, 6-1.
In the girls' courts, Eva Raj Sah booked a quarter-final berth in the under-14 as well as under-18 events. In under-14 pre-quarters, she beat Supriya Buragohain 4-0, 4-1 and in under-18, she prevailed over Areena Phukan 4-2, 4-0. Areena, Nihad Omar and Kristi Boro also joined her in the under-14 round of eight.
Areena outplayed Trinayana Saikia 4-0, 4-1, Nihad humbled Mudra Sonowal 4-1, 4-0 and Kristi beat Sinung Langkam 4-2, 4-0 in the pre-quarters today.
In the other under-18 pre quarter-finals played today, Breshna Khan crushed Nitisha Baruah 4-0, 4-1, Annie Thousen blanked out Pabani Kalita 4-0, 4-0 and Justina Borgohain defeated Priyanka Borah 4-1, 4-0.
In under-18 boys' singles, Jugal Baruah blanked out Arup Dhar 7-0 in a single-setter second round match to book a pre-quarters berth. He was joined by Kaushik Bora, who beat Swagat Kalita 7-1, Ankeet Kashyap humbling Arunav Deka 7-0, Arunav P. Das defeating Ayandeep Baruah 7-2 and Jishnu Baruah handing a 7-3 defeat to Anubhav Kashyap.
The veteran doubles matches of the above-35 and above-45 groups start tomorrow.
