ARUNACHAL IED BLAST: Suspected Ulfa (Independent) militants triggered an improvised explosive device, targeting an army convoy in Arunachal Pradesh's Namsai district on Wednesday.
Sources said a two-vehicle convoy of the 11 Grenadiers Regiment was passing through the Piyong-Kumchaika road around 7.20am when an IED exploded at Nangtaw Khamti village after the convoy had crossed.
"No casualties or damage to any vehicle were reported," a source said.
However, a source in the Dao division said the army was conducting an operation in the area when a crude pipe bomb exploded.
'In a bid to escape, the militants carried out a blast but no casualties or damage occurred,' the source said, adding 'operations are under way'.
In an encounter at Nangtaw following the blast, a jawan identified as Rakesh Kumar of Bikaner in Rajasthan, was killed.
