Dibrugarh, July 17: Arijit Chaliha (Guwahati), Pallab Baruah (Nazira), Imon Sonowal (Tinsukia) and Sayeed Ahmed (Dibrugarh) today reached the quarter-finals of the under-10 (boys’) category of the 3rd all-Assam inter-district ranking badminton tournament.

The meet is being played at two separate venues at the Dibrugarh University indoor stadium and Dibrugarh DSA indoor stadium.

Arijit defeated Archaman Sarma (Tinsukia) 21-6, 21-7 to reach the last eight, while Pallab overcame a defiant Preetimon Bora (Jorhat) by 23-21 and 21-15 sets. Imon defeated Abhinash Borgohain of Charaideo 21-15, 21-6 and Sayeed Ahmed (Dibrugarh) outplayed Ashish Bora (Jorhat) 21-18, 21-20.

The pre quarter-final matches in the under-13 and under-16 boys and girls’ categories were also held.

Around 250 shuttlers from 11 affiliated districts of Assam Badminton Association are participating in the tournament.

The participating districts are Dibrugarh, Guwahati, Nagaon, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Nazira, Charaideo, Tezpur, Tinsukia, Naharkatia and Dhemaji.
