Guwahati, May 6: Assamese film Antareen, which released yesterday across the state, has got a good response from filmgoers here in spite of Baahubali 2: The Conclusion running houseful in its second week.
According to the production team of Antareen, the theatres showing the film in the city have recorded 80 per cent occupancy. The film was released in Vandana, Gold Cinema at four locations (all in Guwahati), Gold Cinema at Golaghat, Jonaki in Tezpur, Bhaskarjyoti in Sivasagar, Krishna Talkies in Nagaon and Jyotsna in Dibrugarh.
Director Monjul Barua said the response would have been much better if had got other time slots other than a morning show. Producer Manabendra Adhikari said many film lovers have been unable to watch the film owing to the odd show timing.
"We expected to get more audience response and planned to release the film in 40 theatres across Assam. But the distributors and hall owners did not give us the chance. Their priority was Bahubali 2. But we are happy that many people are still watching Antareen even in the morning show. Many people have appreciated the film on Facebook," said Adhikari.
Barua said the film has got a good response, especially in Guwahati. "The shows are running 60-80 per cent full in the city theatres," he told The Telegraph.
The production team said another five theatres will screen Antareen from next week and there is a possibility of changing the show timing after they put repeated pressure on the distributor and hall owners. Antareen, based on Tai Tetia Sare Asil, a novella by Assamese author Rita Choudhury, has bagged the best film award in Indian Cine Festival in 2015, best film award in Prag Cine Awards, special jury mention award in North East Film Festival in Itanagar last year and best film award at the India Habitat Film Festival.
