I assume that Gauhati University can be accorded the status of a central university only if development plans are chalked out to meet the ongoing crises.
There is an urgent need for better facilities and infrastructure at the university. It requires more imaginative faculty members to meet the needs of the changing times.
And not to forget the remuneration of the teachers which should be cleared immediately so that they check answerscripts on time and the publication of results are not delayed. If these drawbacks are not rectified then the university will have to reconsider the idea of seeking a central university status.
There is no doubt that Gauhati University has the potential to acquire the status of a central university. But being the oldest and the largest institution of the Northeast, it must try to use its potential to acquire the status. It should try to attract foreign students.
The university is the pride of the Northeast and we will be happy if it is accorded the status of a central university.
But this suggestion itself is a challenge for the university and I am sure that it has the strength as well as the ability to acquire the status as well as rise up to the challenge which the status entails.

Yes, the status of a central university is definitely the mantra for a quick, satisfactory and guaranteed reversal of Gauhati University?s fortunes.
The university is the most prominent educational institution providing the region?s students with a platform for higher studies.
But sadly, the erstwhile glory and charisma of this institution is gradually declining due to the its inept administration and management. The shoddy state of affairs in the administrative departments have started affecting the academic environs of the university.
Moreover, the messy and multifarious syllabi, lack of proper practical and theoretical devices and a major financial crisis arising primarily due to some corrupt minds have also contributed to the present pitiable condition of the institution.
Hence, the idea of granting ?central status? to the university is undoubtedly an excellent proposal, which will prove immensely beneficial in turning things around. The rank of a central university will not only improve the cerebral status but also revive the entire administrative proceedings. If that happens, the university will again rise from the nadir it has sunk to at present and reach the zenith.
Hopefully, the state government and the university administration will give a thought to this proposal, which has the power to unravel several other youth-oriented tribulations resulting from an ineffective educational curriculum.

Being an important institution for higher education for the entire northeastern region, Gauhati University should be accorded a central university status.
If such a status is indeed granted, the university will be able to offer the facilities and courses that other central universities offer. The students of the region will get a chance to fulfil their higher educational ambitions without having to migrate outside the Northeast. The upgraded status may also reform the present educational system of the university and that may, in turn, attract students from outside the region.

Gauhati University, over the last few months, has faced a series of scam charges including misappropriation of funds. Therefore, we need strict monitoring and mending of the prevalent loopholes first before making any demands.
However, granting of central university status will definitely help plug the loopholes and ensure a more corruption-free administration.

The move to seek the central university status has gathered momentum at a time when Gauhati University is faced with charges of corruption and unfair practices. Granting the coveted status will facilitate sanctioning funds necessary to create more facilities and develop infrastructure.
The university was established in the year 1948 under the Gauhati University Act, 1947(Assam Act XVI of 1947). It is the oldest and largest university in the Northeast. There are over 200 affiliated colleges including 30 professional colleges offering under-graduate and post-graduate courses in arts, science, commerce, law, engineering and medicine.
The central status will help streamline a lot of things and revive some of the departments which have fossilised over the years.
Many new and innovative courses can be introduced which would help in the careers of the students here.

It is said that responsibility comes with power. Receiving central university status is a matter of great pride and if Gauhati University wants the coveted status, it must also prepare to shoulder the responsibility with great elan.
Everyone is aware of the different kinds of problems the university is currently facing. Corruption is rampant among the high and low-ranking officials. The administration is quite laid back and the proposals for new policies, which need to be immediately introduced, get delayed.
The university needs to revamp its administration to bring about the necessary changes in education. So I suggest that before vying for central university status, the university should first re-organise its house of cards, which is on the verge of collapse.
