Tura, Sept. 13: In a gun battle between two rebel groups today, four suspected GNLA cadres were killed in Bolmaram forest near Williamnagar in East Garo Hills district.
Police said the exchange of fire between the nascent A’chik Matgrik Elite Force (AMEF) and the GNLA lasted for an hour. However, they were not able to locate the spot. The police claim one of the cadres killed in the firing was an Ulfa militant.
In a separate incident, villagers caught hold of a suspected cadre of the A’chik National Co-operative Army (ANCA) at Chokpot in South Garo Hills. Three cadres managed to escape. One ran to the police station to take shelter.
Rapseng Ch. Marak, who was nabbed by the mob, was lynched.
The gang of five was serving demand notes to villagers. The villagers chased them. They recovered the car in which the militants had come. The car (AS 19 7576) was torched by the villagers. “One of the rebels managed to come down to the police station. He has been identified as Sentu Marak,” said superintendent of police Lakador Syiem.
