Guwahati, Dec. 3: Hosts Assam today rode a patient century by middle order batsman Sanzow Brahma to take a first innings lead of 143 runs against Jammu and Kashmir on the third day of their four-day Cooch Behar Trophy plate group A match at Barsapara cricket stadium here.

Chasing J&K’s first innings total of 250, the home side resumed at overnight 226 for six in 105 overs and Brahma rallied on with the tail to pile up 393 before losing all wickets in 173.4 overs after tea this afternoon.

J&K were reduced to 33 for three in 21 overs with Amlanjyoti Baruah striking for all the three conceding 22 runs off seven overs at close today.

Zaid Mohammad and P. Sharma were batting on 11 (4x2) and 17 (4x3) respectively.

Baruah notched up the three wickets with only five runs on the board.

Earlier in the day, Brahma resumed at his overnight 28 from 185 balls and took his individual score to 128 facing 406 balls. His steady knock was laced with 12 hits to the ropes.

His overnight partner Biku Borgohain (27, 4x2) gave him an able stand, sharing a 57-run seventh wicket partnership before sneaking one from Irshad Sheikh to glovesman Ateev Saini.

It was, however, a 97-run partnership for the eighth wicket between Brahma and Shidhartha Shankar Baruah (37, 4x6) which made Assam’s second innings task easier. Both Borgohain and Baruah showed immense patience at the crease to help Brahma anchor the innings to the challenging total.

This is the first BCCI men’s tournament four-day match at the Barsapara stadium after having hosted East Zone women’s limited-over tournament last month.
