Aizawl: Corruption charges have been slapped against 13 Congress members of the Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) and two other Congress officials, sources said on Monday.
Mizo National Front vigilance committee secretary David Ralte Lalsawmtluanga said 13 Congress MDCs and two other officials in the previous CADC government will be sent to jail for misappropriating funds. He said the district council and minority affairs department, on the recommendation of the government, constituted a one-man inquiry commission in July last year.
A. Muthamma, the then Lawngtlai district deputy commissioner, was assigned to probe the scandal. Muthamma submitted her report on August 8, 2017, which said the Congress-led CADC government had misappropriated funds meant for development of the area.
Ralte said Muthamma asked the government to ensure that criminal cases are registered against the Congress leaders. He also said the 15 Congress leaders sought anticipatory bail on Monday.
Ralte expressed shock over non-registration of a criminal case against former CEM and Congress leader Kali Tong-changya, who allegedly embezzled over Rs 1.7 crore.
