Jamshedpur, Sept. 3: Over 200 men and women shooters from different districts will aim for the bullseye at the Jharkhand State Shooting Championship, beginning tomorrow, at rifle range.
The meet, which will serve as an opportunity to qualify for the All India GV Malvankar Shooting Champion-ship, is being organised by Jharkhand State Rifle Association (JSRA) and will be conducted by Jamshedpur Rifle Club (JRC).
Vice-president of the JSRA Uttam Chand Agarwal said: “The performance of the shooters during the three-day meet will serve as a basis for their qualification to the GV Malvankar Shooting event, schedule at Asansol from September 20-27,” he said.
Agarwal added that a good show at Asansol would help the Jharkhand participants to book a berth at the nati- onal event.
Depending upon the performance here, about 80 shooters from Jharkhand will qualify for the pre-nationals. Over 50 shooters, mostly men from the steel city, will be seen in action during the meet.
Agarwal, who is also a senior functionary of the JRC, said shooters will compete in 10m air rifle and air pistol (.177 bore), 25-50 m distance (.22 bore rifle) and 25-50 m distance revolver and pistol.
“We have imported weapons from Germany which will be given to the participants who do not have weapons of their own. Ammunition will also be made available during the meet,” he said.
East Singhbhum deputy commissioner and JRC chief R.K. Agarwal will be inaugurating the championship while Shivaji Ray, the joint managing director of MN Dastur & Company, will grace the closing ceremony as the chief guest.
