Ranchi: The first board meeting of the RMC, after the recent civic polls, took a policy decision to involve people in all policy decisions related to public welfare projects.

The five-hour meeting, chaired my mayor Asha Lakra at the corporation office in Kutchery, also demanded that the government provide funds for the purchase of tankers, tractors and hydrants.

Deputy mayor Sanjeev Vijayvargiya said the RMC had strongly felt that for effective implementation of any project, suggestions of the common public was important.

"Be it construction of a park or making room for a parking lot, popular opinion is always necessary. We plan to circulate the draft proposal of a project through newspapers and online. Notices will also be sent to respective councillors. Thereafter, a meeting will be convened in which citizen representatives will be invited for talks," he added.

All the 53 new councillors attended Wednesday's maiden meeting, where they demanded that the RMC ensure door-to-door water supply.

BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Mahesh Poddar also attended the meeting as a special invitee. He sanctioned funds worth Rs 13.50 lakh from his local area development fund for purchase of 15 tankers for door-to-door water supply.

The RMC currently has 65 tankers.

Board members also viewed a PowerPoint presentation on road management prepared by the traffic police. The police have proposed some structural changes on Main Road to make room for proper parking, bicycle lane and diversion of traffic during peak hour. A final decision is expected to be taken at the next board meeting.
