Ranchi, Aug. 12: Railway police foiled a train dacoity on the Rajgir-Howrah passenger in Sahebganj last night.
The police arrested one of the robbers, Ekramul, and recovered four country-made pistols and 24 rounds of ammunition from him. However, three of Ekramul’s accomplices managed to flee.
Inspector-general, railway, Ashok Kumar Sinha said following a tip-off, GRP personnel raided the train near Barharwa and arrested Ekramul, a resident of Bhagalpur in Bihar.
During interrogation, Ekramul disclosed the names of his associates and efforts are on to arrest the criminals, Sinha said.
The police have also initiated computerisation of records related to rail crime. The data will be accumulated and presented before the rail superintendent of police and deputy superintendents soon.
“Records of neighbouring states are also being compiled so that they can be distributed among all rail police stations,” Sinha said.
Besides, the railway police are also verifying the records of the last 10 years of criminals involved in track crime, Sinha said. “We are working in close co-ordination with the Railway Protection Force,” he said. The RPF is in the process of augmenting its force in the state and has started deputing personnel for the safety of passengers,” he said.
