Play, show mark Premchand anniversary

Jamshedpur, July 31: Plays, seminars and exhibitions marked the birth anniversary of Munshi Premchand in the city today.

The Nikhil Sangha Banga Sahitto Sammelan and Tarun Sangh jointly organised a cultural programme at Sonari. Munshi Premchand’s play Sadgati was staged by Vibhav, a cultural group.

The Janta Madhya Vidyalaya organised a function at Chhotagovindpur to remember the Hindi writer. A play Bade Bhai Sahab was also staged.

The play, directed by Shivlala Sagar, beautifully portrayed the bonding between two brothers who had different attitude towards life. While the elder one was an introvert, the younger brother spent most of his time playing with friends. Parthasarthy and Md Nizam, students of the school, played the lead role.

Yuva, a social organisation, remembered Premchand by organising a seminar on the writer at Muckdumpur. Eminent writers, including C. Bhaskar Rao, Jainandan, Aslam Badr, Kedar Mahato, Raghav Alok, Vinayak Rao and Ravindranath Choubey, spoke about the contributions of Premchand to Hindi literature. Later, an exhibition of Premchand’s books was held.

Football league: Aruna Samiti defeated BFA 3-1 in the JSA B division super league match at Gopal Maidan today, reports our correspondent.

Aruna Samiti’s centre forward Ramesh Mukhi scored a brace in the 15th and 66th minute,while Ravinath Mukhi blasted in the other goal in the 57th minute of the second-half. Bhaskar Murmu scored for BFA in the 70th minute.
