Three hundred and eighty-four less students will migrate out of the state to study Plus Two from this academic year.

For, the state on Monday got its 66th constituent intermediate college. The JAC-affiliated St Aloysius School on Purulia Road has opened its intermediate wing, St Aloysius Inter-college. Rev Bishop Telesphore Bilung, the auxillary Bishop Arch Diocese of Ranchi, did the honours.

The inter-college is offering 128 seats each in science, commerce and arts courses. As of now, the institute has 12 faculty members, three classrooms and single staffroom on the first floor. Classes will start from Tuesday.

"All the 128 seats in both arts and science are already taken. We only have 10 seats left in commerce," said principal of St Aloysius Inter-college Brother Silvestar Surin. According to him, there are students from neighbouring districts as well as states like Bengal, Odisha and Bihar.

The principal also expressed his concern over the lack of intermediate colleges in the state. "It's sad that many of our students, who clear their matriculation exams, are forced to leave the state. While few enrol in vocational courses and some in high schools, rest are left with no option than to migrate. After consulting with JAC officials, we came up with the idea to open an inter-college," he added.

Kuldeep Panna, a candidate from Simdega who has enrolled in the science stream, said, "I secured 86 per cent in my matriculation exam. When an advertisement was published in a vernacular daily a month back, I applied. In our district we have a constituent college, but its intermediate section there is lack of teachers and infrastructure."
