Brand Jharcraft has gained wings, now expanding to Birsa Munda Airport in the state capital.
The Jharcraft store will debut at the new integrated terminal building within a couple of days in what will be an apt Navratra gift for thousands of fliers, who will now be able to carry along with them handloom and handicraft products designed by the tribal artisans of Jharkhand.
The airport authority has provided rental space of 20 square metres for opening the store, which is being currently readied for a variety of items ranging from silk stoles, scarves, kurtis, bundis and kuchai silk saris to tribal ornaments and dokra items.
This will be Jharcraft's fourth store in the city, the others being located on Main Road, Harmu Road and at Radisson Blu. "In August, I had detailed discussions with airport director Anil Vikram and expressed my willingness to open a Jharcraft store at Birsa Munda Airport keeping in mind the constant flow of domestic and international passengers, who have started visiting our city for business and entertainment purposes," said A.T. Mishra, managing director of Jharcraft, which happens to be India's single-largest tussar silk producer.
What followed was a series of talks with the airport director and finally, Jharcraft got a nod for opening the store in mid-September. "I am glad that finally, I am able to gift our new store to fliers. And the timing could not have been more perfect as the store will make a debut in the run-up to Durga Puja," Mishra added.
Prodded more about the new business venture of Jharcraft, which has an annual turnover of Rs 55 crore, the managing director said that the new store would definitely increase their income.
"There are a lot of passengers, who wait for almost an hour at the airport to board flights, but cannot visit our shops in the city as they are hard-pressed for time. This store will cater to their needs as they can purchase gifts for their near and dear ones. Our products are unique and will be liked by all," he explained.
At present, the new terminal building has a coffee and snacks counter besides a luggage shop.
