Ranchi, May 21: For non-resident Gujaratis staying overseas, prospective brides and grooms can now be found within the community on a click of a mouse.

In a bid to connect with Gujaratis in the US, UK, Kenya and Mozambique, Ranchi Patel Samaj is planning to develop a matrimonial website.

Such websites are already operational in Gujarat. But for Jharkhand, the process is still on and would be complete in a month.

Tulsi Prasad Patel, the secretary of the Ranchi Patel Samaj said, the society is developing the website so that around 35,000 Gujarati families residing in the state can register on it.

“This way parents staying abroad who usually travel back to India to look for a match can do so online and, that too, within the community,” said the secretary.

Likewise, the secretary added that there are many relatives from Jharkhand who are residing in the US and Kenya. “We keep getting calls to find suitable matches. Hence, the members of Patel Samaj decided to develop a website for the benefit of the community,” added the secretary.

“Late Kishore Bhai’s sons, Rushi Patel and Dhaval Patel, both non-resident Gujaratis, married outside the community in the US, which was opposed. After many negotiations, the matter was resolved and finally they married American girls,” Patel said.

“Most families, who are not staying in Jharkhand, do not want to marry girls outside the community. Match-fixing becomes a great problem. Thus, a website would give them enough choice,” said Neerja Patel, a resident of Lalji Hirji road.

The secretary said they are yet to decide on the name of the website. The tentative name of the website will be gujaratipatelsamaj.com or ranchi.gujaratipatelsamaj, he said.
