Airline theft cry

Madurai, Dec. 20 (PTI): A man who had travelled by a private airline from Madurai to Chennai recently has lodged a complaint that gold and diamond jewellery kept in his baggage were missing.

The passenger, who was accompanied by his wife, said the lock on the bag was intact. Airline officials had asked the couple to carry the jewellery in their hand bag.

ATM robbery

Dhariwal (PTI): Nearly Rs 16 lakh was stolen from a State Bank of India ATM located in the main branch in Punjab’s Dhariwal district on Saturday. The thieves, who probably knew the ATM password entered the kiosk without breaking in and withdrew Rs 16 lakh.

Canal tragedy

Vijayawada (PTI): A woman and her four daughters are feared drowned after they slipped into the Vijayawada thermal power station’s hot water canal in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh on Sunday. The 22-year-old woman had gone to the canal with her children to wash clothes when the girls slipped. The woman fell trying to save them.

Lashkar man

Jammu (PTI): An alleged Lashkar-e-Toiba supporter has been arrested in Jammu and Kashmir’s Doda district. Police raided a hotel, acting on a tip-off, and arrested Nisar Ahmed. He was working as a guide and a courier agent, the police said.

Girls rescued

Bangalore (PTI): Police rescued 12 bar girls abducted by a gang after an exchange of fire, injuring two of the gangsters on the outskirts of Bangalore early on Sunday. Three policemen were also injured. The gang had demanded a ransom from the owner of the bar where the girls worked.

Leopard hunt

Nashik (PTI): Forest officials are searching for a leopard that attacked five people on Saturday and was seen in a cotton field. Villagers clashed with police after the officials refused to shoot the leopard. The tehsildar’s vehicle was ransacked and a journalist’s camera was destroyed.
