Jhargram (WB), Jul 27 (PTI): An alleged Maoist, Jiten Giri, suspected to be involved in the May 28 Gyaneshwari train disaster which left 148 passengers dead, has surrendered at the Jhargram court in West Midnapore district.
He was remanded to 14 days judicial custody.
The 48-year-old Giri, against whom several cases including murder, sedition, arson, possession of illegal arms, loot and conspiracy were also pending, surrendered before the the Sub-divisional Judicial Magistrate (SDJM) Sk Mohammed Reza yesterday.
Giri, a resident of Moraboni in Jhargram sub-division and a Maoist squad member for the last three years, was suspected to be involved in the Gyaneshwari train mishap, a senior district police official told PTI.
Earlier, eight others, including Bapi Mahto, the main accused, were arrested in connection with the train mishap.
