A constable with Maharashtra police’s anti-corruption bureau has lodged a complaint against a senior officer accusing him of demanding sexual favours from her.

The woman had in October moved the special committee against sexual harassment of the Nagpur unit of the ACB, which found her allegations against Nagpur ACB chief P.R. Patil to be true.

“The complaint was lodged on Tuesday night after a green signal from the ACB’s director-general,” said a police source.

The complainant, a 28-year-old constable posted with Nagpur police’s rural district unit, had been on deputation to the ACB as a driver.

She had alleged that she was not relieved of her duty after a male driver was appointed. She, however, wanted to be attached to the Nagpur unit in some other role.

“She alleged that Patil had threatened to send her back to the rural police unit if she did not accept his advances. She had received several lewd messages on her cellphone, including threats to call her to Patil’s bungalow at odd hours,” said a senior police officer.

She had also accused Patil of trying to malign her by linking her with some male members of the unit.

“A two-member team has been formed to probe the matter,” said B.K. Upadhyay, the Nagpur police chief. “We will proceed on the FIR after a thorough probe.”

Patil was not available for comment.
