I am definitely very conscious of my image. Though I don’t visit salons because I don’t have time, I work out every day for two hours. If I don’t go to the gym, I do free-hand exercises. I make it a point to sleep eight hours a day and I am very conscious that I don’t get dark circles under my eyes. I like to look fresh all the time.... I follow a diet. Cucumber and curd during summers and nuts during winters are a must for me. I am also particular about my hairstyle and consult my stylist from time to time.

I’m in a profession where I train a lot of people. So it goes with the territory — I’m expected to look a type. I’m expected to walk my talk. If I tell someone to pick 100kg and squat, I should be able to do it myself. So from that point of view, I’m almost paranoid. It’s about being able to maintain a certain level of fitness because people look up to you. The standards I measure my physique against are muscularity, low body fat and aspiration towards the classical male figure — wide shoulders, narrow waist and strong shapely legs. It’s important not to be muscular on top and have skinny legs. I try my best to achieve this ideal body image. However, I often swing between periods of complete carelessness, perhaps on a holiday, to when I’m very careful for weeks. Consistency is something I hope to get better at! At the same time, I do allow myself some liberties, like I don’t hesitate to eat a chocolate as long as I work out.

Being a sportsman, I need to go to the gym, train and eat healthy. That helps me stay fit. I hate myself with a paunch. If I eat out for a couple of days, I make sure that I am on the treadmill for one hour the third day. I am a little finicky about the way I look. I buy a lot of clothes and I am pretty finicky about that too… I make sure that if I am buying an expensive tee, I look good in it. I train harder to knock that extra fat off.

I have become very conscious nowadays. For me, it is important to be fit more than building muscles. I want to have a strong core self. I can work hard and my body is extremely flexible. I don’t desire a six pack.... It is also about the attitude. Clothes should look good on you. Being a designer, people measure you from top to toe. And since we do menswear now, people buy what we wear.... I have given up smoking. I avoid drinking and I have learnt not to succumb to peer pressure. Otherwise, I am a foodie. No bizarre diets for me!

I am very conscious, but I cannot go to the extent of surgery or drugs to attain the ideal body. I exercise, follow a diet and rest well. I visit the parlour once a month for an anti-tan facial and a haircut.

I am super conscious! I strongly believe that if I am teaching something, I must do it first myself. The first and the last thing I do every day is drink water. I measure myself against myself. Over a period of three months or six, I set myself short-term fitness goals. You have to realise that not all men having a good physique are fit. People who are really fit have a really good physique. Your body is a machine. You’ve got to push that machine to its limits or closer to the limits to see results.
