On the one hand social media has been a way for celebs to come closer to their fans, it has also been a constant arena for trolls to get back at them at every other move they make.Under the harsh light of such criticism, there have been a few #PowerCelebs who’ve owned their trolls like a boss, be it with wit, whiplash or a well-timed apology!
Known for her sharp Twitter tongue,John Legend’s wife
Chrissy Teigen
has always given it back to the trolls. After her wardrobe malfunction — her dangerously high slit dress — at the American Music Awards in November ’16, a tweeter bashed her saying: “Underwear-free @chrissyteigen what happened to being a lady? #SMH”. To which Chrissy wrote back, “I am pretty sure you could clearly see I’m a lady.” That bagged 25 hearts, above 5,000 RTs and silence from the troller.
There was also the curious case of
Priyanka Chopra’s
armpit. When Twitter went into outrage mode around PC’s armpit being photo-shopped on the cover of a magazine, she decided to play ‘hands-up!’ The Baywatch babe posted a picture on Twitter flaunting her armpit: “Here’s another ‘pit-stopping’ picture to add to the debate”. That put a pit-stop to the brouhaha.
Tollywood actress
Parno Mittra
fought back Internet bullies who made filthy remarks on one of her Instagram pictures posted in July 2016. “Hell yeah I am a woman and I have boobs nd I have an ass . If u hv an issue then do not look at my pictures...I am a woman, show me some respect!”. Way to go, girl!
When Karan Johar
was asked on Twitter this month if he would agree to give someone a break in the movies, in return for sex, pat came a reply that spelt #MajorBurn: “Listen Sherlock!!! First solve the mystery of your existence??? The prize will be to LAUNCH a missile up your arse!!!”
Known for his jokes on Twitter,
Rishi Kapoor
has created one too many storms on social media. However, he proved that there’s nothing like family and came out in full support of niece Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan after they named their son Taimur Ali Khan. “You mind your bloody business. Tumhare beta ka naam toh naheen rakha na?” tweeted @chintskap to shut up the trolls.
From Aamir to Shah Rukh Khan,
it’s well known what the Badshah thinks of trolls. He had tweeted in September 2016: “I follow my Freedom Fighter father’s advice ‘quieter u bcome the more u r able 2 hear’. Good he’s no more, he’d be sad 2 hear wot sum ppl say”. And now, the Bolly superstar has made it clear that he “doesn’t take trolling seriously”.
Zaira Wasim,
the 16-year-old Kashmiri girl who brought the young Geeta Phogat alive in Aamir Khan’s Dangal, had to bear the brunt of online trolls after Jammu & Kashmir chief minister Mehbooba Mufti described her as “a role model” for the valley’s youth. When things got out of hand the young actress was forced to issue an apology online.
The day after, Zaira found support from the man who matters:
Aamir Khan.
Her Dangal baapu took on the trolls: “The beauty is that bright, young, talented, hard-working, respectful, caring and courageous kids like you are role models for kids not only in India, but across the world. You certainly are [a] role model for me!”
