Emmy red carpet stayed white

...with a dash of colour

If someone looked like a doll on the red carpet, it was 44-year-old Penelope Cruz in her strapless Chanel gown. The half-tulle, half-feather billowy gown created the right amount of drama, which she accessorised with a string of diamonds and a neat ponytail. The look was a big win as was her show The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story.

Stranger Things star Millie Bobby Brown rocked an age-appropriate outfit — a millennial pink dress with rose prints by Calvin Klein which had cute bows on the sleeves. Brownie points for getting the blowing-kiss pose bang on.

A Ralph & Russo gown is made for a dreamy entry, and The Sinners actress Jessica Biel looked beautiful in a strapless white semi-sheer gown with scallop-shaped patterns and a fair amount of trail. We loved how she let her brunette locks loose and opted for pink lips that complemented the whole look.

Michelle Dockery — our favourite Mary Crawley from Downton Abbey — looked as delicate as ever in her blue tulle dress with orange floral detailing on the chest. Her bright coral lips were just the pop of colour needed to tie in the whole look.

Would you wear an old outfit to a red carpet? Well, Padma Lakshmi just did! We loved that the Top Chef host recycled her J. Mendel red cut-out gown with a thigh-high slit, pairing it with a gold cuff.

Scarlett Johansson, co-host of the awards ceremony, took the opportunity to debut her new tattoo — a giant rose on her back — in a body-hugging sequinned white number by Balmain with slits in the front and on the thigh. The glitter eye make-up and the back-combed hair were super chic.

Bold and fierce — that’s how Rachel Brosnahan looked in the pleated Oscar de la Renta gown. The ombre effect, the interesting sleeve and the diamond earrings made for a “marvellous” look for the award winner.

Game of Thrones’s Emilia Clarke opted for petal power in a Dior Haute Couture black dress, teamed with diamond danglers and a low bun. Her Chantilly lace gown with colourful flower motifs made the Mother of Dragons look wow.
