The Boogeyman trailer: The film adaptation of Stephen King’s short story promises monsters under the bed

Directed by Rob Savage, the film will hit theatres on June 2

The official trailer of supernatural horror movie The Boogeyman, the adaptation of a Stephen King short story, has been released by 20th Century Studios.

In the two-minute-six-second-long trailer, we see a teenage girl and her sister reeling from the recent death of their mother. They aren’t getting much support from their therapist father. One day, a desperate patient unexpectedly shows up at their door and leaves behind a terrifying supernatural entity that preys on families and feeds on the suffering of its victims.

A portion of the trailer debuted on Fox’s live broadcast of the NFC championship game but is now available in its entirety on YouTube.

Directed by Rob Savage, who previously helmed Host, The Boogeyman will hit theatres in the US on June 2. The movie features Sophie Thatcher, Chris Messina, Vivien Lyra Blair, Marin Ireland, Madison Hu, LisaGay Hamilton and David Dastmalchian in key roles. Its screenplay is penned by A Quiet Place writer duo of Scott Beck and Bryan Woods along with Black Swan writer Mark Heyman.

Stephen King also shared the poster of the upcoming film on Twitter ahead of the trailer launch. “Here's the poster for THE BOOGEYMAN, based on my short story. Watch for the trailer, which will debut on today's NFC game. And be sure to close the closet door,” he wrote.

The Boogeyman was first published in the March 1973 issue of the Cavalier magazine and later included in King's 1978 collection Night Shift.
