A Kathak dancer, Shreya Adhya became the May Princess. “I had immense stage fright until I won this title. This has helped me boost my confidence. The grooming session taught me discipline,” said the 19-year-old who is inspired by Priyanka Chopra.
Nidhi Soni, who feels at home on stage, was the May Queen runner-up. “I have made some wonderful memories and friends and I learnt a lot about poise and elegance,” said the 32-year-old homemaker who was also Miss Photogenic.
Kriti Chauhan was the May Princess runner-up. “I would love to take part in this again if I get a chance. I learnt that comfort and loving yourself is everything and my inspiration is Priyanka Chopra!” said the 18-year-old aspiring entrepreneur.
She’s the queen: Urvashi Chauhan wore the coveted tiara at the May Queen Ball 2017, presented by Fort William Army Officers Institute in association with t2, at the AOI Lawns on May 24. The former radio jockey attributed her success to “extreme dedication”. “My passion for the stage removed my fear. The learning I took home from the grooming workshop was that I needed to be confident and expressive,” said the 30-year-old who looks up to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Apart from the May Queen title, Urvashi also won Miss Catwalk, Miss Beautiful Smile and Miss Talent.
Sixteen women and six men participated in the show.
While the first round saw a formal introduction with a ramp walk, the second one was all about showcasing one’s talent. Designer Tejas Gandhi dressed the contestants for the fashion show choreographed by Nicola Gomes.
Captain Amarjot Singh Sidhu, 27, was crowned May King William. Meant for the wives and daughters of armymen until now, the May Queen Ball was thrown open to men this year, with the inclusion of new categories.
Rohit Kumar was May Prince William. “This was a great encouragement for men to take part in contests like this. My inspiration would be Hrithik Roshan because of the way he carries himself!” said the 19-year-old who is studying music at AR Rahman Foundation and wants to be a music producer.
